My new favorite movie, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”

Last night while my husband was channel surfing after dinner, we came upon the wonderful 2012 British comedy called, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”.

What I love most about the movie are the fabulous and funny quotes about life.   The film has a great line up of wonderful actors such as Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy.

The story line is about a group of British retirees who decide they will retire in India, but as they soon realize not everything goes as planned.  Throughout the movie there are cute and funny quotes that can be used in most of our real life. I will list a few of them; since I was keeping track during the movie.

  • Everything will be all right in the end….if it’s not all right then it’s not yet the end.
  • Everybody wants happiness; nobody wants pain but you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.
  • You are confined only by the walls you build yourself.
  • There is no past that we can bring back – by longing for it.

The film has terrific characters who each travel to India for different reasons; the story line takes you on a journey of each of these characters.  One character played by Maggie Smith is looking for an affordable hip replacement, another character is broke and looking for romance. Each of the 9 characters has a story and the backdrop is the beautiful country of India, with its vivid colors and rich history.

Rent the movie if you cannot find it on your local channels or HBO. It is charming and will make you want to travel and meet interesting people like these characters in the movie.
