The Words – Happy Birthday Letter

The words that forever changed my life were not from a book or any speech or poem.  They were from a letter I received on my 50th birthday party from a very close friend, Marion D. The letter was so well written, it was a present in itself. At first – I was overcome with fear, pure fear reading the two page letter,  since I had no idea what it was about? Basically the letter Marion had written me was a letter of confidence in myself.

Marion and I had become friends in 1988 while our children were in kindergarten together. We had many things in common beside our children, we were both from the same city and grew up in the same neighborhood. We shared many of the same friends and had the same breed of dogs. Drove the same car, our Moms had the same first names, we were both Catholics, and of course both of us were good looking ladies. Need I say anything more.  We made a conscious effort to root for the same major league baseball team. (Go Angels)

Over the years, there would be disappointments, problems and array of parenting woes. Marion always made herself available to me and made sure to stay on the front lines as needed. To quote Marion,  “Her spirit of happiness spills into days, she makes all of us a little bit better”.

Happy Birthday to you, Marion! May your trip around the sun – be your best year ever !
